Reza Vali is an Iranian-American composer and professor of music at Carnegie Mellon University. He is best known for his works for traditional Persian instruments, such as the tar and the setar, as well as for his compositions for Western instruments. Reza Vali was born in 1952 in Qazvin, Iran. He studied music at the Tehran Conservatory of Music and later at the University of Tehran. In 1979, he moved to the United States and continued his studies at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his doctorate in composition in 1984. Reza Vali has composed over 100 works for traditional Persian instruments, as well as for Western instruments. His works have been performed by numerous orchestras and ensembles, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Reza Vali is married to Iranian-American artist and professor of art, Mahin Bahrami. They have two children. Reza Vali has an estimated net worth of $1 million.
