R.S. Thomas was a Welsh poet and Anglican priest who wrote about the Welsh landscape and his own spiritual journey. He was born in Cardiff, Wales, and was educated at the University of Wales, Bangor. He was ordained as a priest in 1936 and served in various parishes in Wales until his retirement in 1978. Thomas was a prolific writer, publishing over 20 volumes of poetry, as well as several books of prose. His work was often concerned with the Welsh landscape and his own spiritual journey. He was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 1964 and was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1996. He died in 2000.
