1983

His first published work as a writer was a short story entitled "Good-night, My Johnny Boy," which appeared in 1983 in Chic magazine. Shortly thereafter, he began writing regularly for the comic book fan magazine Amazing Heroes. While writing a comic book review column for that magazine, he was voted "Favorite Writer About Comics" in a fan poll conducted by the publication Comic Buyer's Guide. He briefly stepped into the role of Executive Editor for Elite Comics before turning his efforts to full-time freelance writing. In the comic book field, he wrote multiple issues of various titles, primarily for Malibu Comics. His credits for them include: Dark Wolf; Fist of God; Scimidar; Merlin; Sinbad; White Devil; The Protectors; Ferret; Nightman and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Other comic book writing credits include: Harlan Ellison's Dream Corridor (Dark Horse); Green Lantern (DC Comics) and Wolverine/Captain America for Marvel. For Image Comics, he co-wrote the mini-series Bulletproof Monk, which served as the inspiration for the motion picture of the same title.

A. was educated at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School in elementary and junior high grades before graduating from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa. His college degrees include an Associates degree in Journalism from Tulsa Junior College (now Tulsa Community College); and a Bachelor's Degree in History from Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah, where he minored in English and Psychology.
