She was honored by award of the Sir Isaiah Berlin Lifetime Achievement award by the Political Studies Association of the UK "for the significant contribution she has made as a major political thinker and in helping to shape academic research on democracy, electoral integrity, and populism–all issues that are relevant now more than ever."

In 2011 Norris and Ronald Inglehart were awarded the Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science for "contributing innovative ideas about the relevance and roots of political culture in a global context, transcending previous mainstream approaches of research".

Norris was awarded the inaugural Kathleen Fitzpatrick Australian Laureate Fellowship in 2011.

Pippa Norris and Joni Lovenduski's book on Political Recruitment: Gender, Race and Class (Cambridge University Press, 1995) was awarded the 2018 George H. Hallett prize by APSA "for a book published at least ten years ago which has made a lasting contribution to the literature on representation and electoral systems". She has also received the Doris Graber book award for A Virtuous Circle, honored as the best book in political communications.

Norris holds a Bachelor of Arts in politics and philosophy with joint honors from Warwick University, as well as a masters and doctoral degree in politics from the London School of Economics, and Honorary Doctorates from the University of Edinburgh, University of Bergen, Leuphema University, and Warwick University.
