Philippe Streiff is a French racing driver who was born on 26 June, 1955 in La Tronche, France. He is best known for his career in Formula One, where he competed in the 1986 and 1987 seasons. He also competed in the World Sportscar Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Streiff began his racing career in karting in the early 1970s, before moving up to Formula Renault in 1977. He won the French Formula Renault Championship in 1979, and then moved up to Formula 3 in 1980. He won the French Formula 3 Championship in 1981, and then moved up to Formula 2 in 1982. He competed in Formula 2 until 1984, when he moved up to Formula 3000. He won the French Formula 3000 Championship in 1985, and then moved up to Formula One in 1986. Streiff competed in Formula One for the AGS and Tyrrell teams in 1986 and 1987, but was unable to score any points. He then moved back to Formula 3000 in 1988, and then competed in the World Sportscar Championship from 1989 to 1991. He also competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1990 and 1991. Streiff retired from racing in 1992, and has since become a racing instructor. He is currently the president of the French Racing Drivers Association. 1994

In early 1994, Streiff made a bid to purchase Ligier in partnership with Hughes de Chaunac. The bid had the support of the similarly Renault-powered Williams F1 team, who intended to turn Ligier into a 'junior' team. The bid was unsuccessful.

1989

A pre-season testing crash in 1989 left him a quadriplegic and thus using a wheelchair, with the quality of the care he received in the aftermath having been called into question, even if the accident itself was so serious the roll-bar broke on impact.
