Composer, conductor and arranger Peter Yorke was well known in Britain through his hundreds of broadcasts, and his themes have been widely used on television and radio. In the 1930s he was one of the finest dance band arrangers in England, working with Percival Mackey, Jack Hylton, Louis Levy and others. After World War II he established himself as a light music composer and conductor through BBC radio shows such as Sweet Serenade, Our Kind Of Music and The Peter Yorke Melody Hour. From the late 1940s he made numerous 78s for Columbia Records, including some with saxophonist Freddy Gardner. Most of Peter Yorke's original compositions were written for London mood music libraries: Chappell, Francis Day & Hunter, Bosworth, Harmonic, Conroy, Paxton, Southern and Josef Weinberger.
