Patrick Williams is an American composer, arranger, conductor, and music producer. He has composed music for television, film, and the concert stage, and has won two Emmy Awards and two Grammy Awards. He has also been nominated for an Academy Award. Williams was born in Bonne Terre, Missouri, and began playing the piano at the age of five. He studied music at the University of Miami, and then moved to Los Angeles in the late 1960s to pursue a career in music. Williams has composed music for numerous television shows, including The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Taxi, Cheers, and The Bob Newhart Show. He has also composed music for films, including The Sting, The Towering Inferno, and The Poseidon Adventure. Williams has won two Emmy Awards for his work on the television series Hill Street Blues and Taxi, and two Grammy Awards for his work on the albums The Sting and The Towering Inferno. He has also been nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the film The Sting. Williams has also composed music for the concert stage, including the musicals Working and The Civil War. He has also written music for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston Pops, and the London Symphony Orchestra. Williams has been married to his wife, singer-songwriter Carole Bayer Sager, since 1982. They have two children.
