Patrick Desruelles is a Belgian athlete who was born on 24 April, 1957. He is best known for his achievements in the sport of athletics, particularly in the long jump and triple jump. He won the gold medal in the long jump at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and the silver medal in the triple jump at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Desruelles began his athletic career in the early 1970s, competing in the long jump and triple jump at the Belgian national level. He won his first national title in the long jump in 1975, and went on to win a total of seven Belgian titles in the long jump and triple jump. In 1984, Desruelles competed in the long jump at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and won the gold medal with a jump of 8.54 meters. He also competed in the triple jump at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, and won the silver medal with a jump of 17.20 meters. Desruelles retired from competitive athletics in the early 1990s, and has since become a coach and mentor to young athletes. He currently resides in Belgium, and is the father of two children.
