Nqabayomzi Kwankwa is a South African politician who is currently serving as a Member of Parliament for the United Democratic Movement (UDM). He was born in Cape Province and attended the University of the Western Cape, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and International Relations. Kwankwa has been involved in politics since his student days, when he was a member of the South African Students Congress (SASCO). He was also a member of the African National Congress (ANC) Youth League and served as the Deputy Secretary of the ANC in the Western Cape. Kwankwa was elected to the National Assembly in 2014 and was appointed as the UDM's Chief Whip in the National Assembly in 2015. He has served on several committees, including the Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs, the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services, and the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises. Kwankwa is a strong advocate for social justice and has been vocal in his support for the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community. He has also been a vocal critic of the South African government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the May 2019 general election, Kwankwa secured another term as MP. He remains the party's chief whip.

2015

Kwankwa challenged Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala for the post of UDM deputy president in December 2015 and Litchfield-Tshabalala won the election. A year later, in December 2016, Kwankwa was elected to the post following the resignation of Litchfield-Tshabalala.

Kwankwa is married and has five children. He won the 2015 Outstanding International Leadership Award. The award has since been renamed after him.

Kwankwa was born on 23 August 1980 in the Eastern Cape region of the previous Cape Province. He grew up in poverty. His father was also a polygamist. He later moved to Cape Town in the 1990s and was homeless for a short time. Due to his financial situation, he could not attend his father's funeral and burial in Middledrift, Eastern Cape, in 1999.
