Nigel Sweeney is a British barrister and former judge. He was born in 1954 and is 66 years old. He was educated at St Paul's School, London, and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he read law. He was called to the Bar in 1977 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1995. Sweeney was appointed a Recorder of the Crown Court in 1998 and a Circuit Judge in 2002. He was appointed a High Court Judge in the Queen's Bench Division in 2008. He was the Presiding Judge of the South Eastern Circuit from 2011 to 2014. In 2014, Sweeney was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal and a member of the Privy Council. He was appointed a Deputy Senior Presiding Judge in 2015. Sweeney is married to Lady Sweeney, a former barrister. They have two children.
