Cook played for Leicestershire County Cricket Club from 1975 to 1988, and was a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-pace bowler. He scored over 10,000 runs in first-class cricket, and took over 500 wickets. He also played in List A cricket for Leicestershire and Minor Counties. Cook was an umpire in the County Championship from 1989 to 2006, and stood in two Test matches in 2001. He was also an umpire in the NatWest Trophy and the Benson & Hedges Cup. Cook is married to his wife, Sue, and they have two children. He currently lives in Leicester.

Nicholas Grant Billson "Nick" Cook (born 17 June 1956) is an English cricket umpire and former player who appeared in 15 Tests and three ODIs between 1983 and 1989. A slow left-arm orthodox spin bowler and a lower order right-handed batsman, he played first-class and List A cricket from 1978 to 1994. He is currently an ECB appointed umpire on the professional circuit. He was born in Leicester and attended Lutterworth Grammar School.
