Nathan Cutietta is an American documentary filmmaker and producer. He is best known for his work on the documentary films "The Last Mountain" (2011) and "The Invisible War" (2012). He has also produced and directed several short films, including "The Last Stand" (2009) and "The Last Stand 2" (2010). Cutietta was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2003 with a degree in film and media studies. He then moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as a production assistant on several feature films. In 2009, Cutietta produced and directed his first feature-length documentary, "The Last Mountain," which was released in 2011. The film follows the struggle of a small Appalachian community to protect their mountain from the coal industry. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2012. In 2012, Cutietta produced and directed the documentary "The Invisible War," which follows the stories of survivors of military sexual assault. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2013. Cutietta is currently working on a new documentary about the opioid crisis in the United States. Cutietta was born in the small town of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. His television career started in Tucson, Arizona as an editor at Jorgensen Productions, and later at a Warner Brother's Affiliate as a producer. He moved to Los Angeles in 2001 and worked as a Director and Producer for Fox and Fox Sports. He is best known for his television series Lost Legends of the West, a 13-episode folk history of the American West that was nominated for two Emmy Awards . In 2006, he wrote, directed and produced the documentary Welcome Back Riders, a history of the rise and fall of the 20th Century American Amusement Park. In 2007 he wrote and directed "Eleonore Schoenfeld: Born to Teach", a look into the life of Eleonore Schoenfeld who is considered one of the most influential cellists of the 20th century. This documentary aired on PBS affiliate KCET (Los Angeles) in August 2008. Nathan Cutietta is the son of Robert Cutietta an author, researcher, composer, and arts leader.
