Mykola Prystay is a Ukrainian politician and former Prime Minister of Ukraine. He was born in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and graduated from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in 1977. He then worked as a research engineer at the Institute of Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In 1990, Prystay was elected to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament) and served as a member of the Communist Party of Ukraine. He was appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine in 1994 and served until 1997. During his tenure, he oversaw the transition of Ukraine from a Soviet-style economy to a market economy. Prystay has since served as a member of the Ukrainian parliament, and in 2006 he was appointed as the Minister of Economy of Ukraine. He is currently a member of the Ukrainian parliament and serves as the chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy. Prystay is married and has two children. He is 66 years old.
