Miloslav Ransdorf is a Czech politician who has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2009. He is a member of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, part of the European United Left–Nordic Green Left. Ransdorf was born on 15 February 1953 in Prague. He studied at the University of Economics in Prague, graduating in 1977. He then worked as an economist in the Czechoslovak Ministry of Foreign Trade from 1977 to 1989. Ransdorf was a member of the Czechoslovak Communist Party from 1977 to 1989. He was a member of the Czech National Council from 1990 to 1992. He was a member of the Czech Parliament from 1992 to 1996. Ransdorf was elected to the European Parliament in 2009. He is a member of the Committee on International Trade and the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. He is also a substitute member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and the Delegation to the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.
