Mike Sexton is an American professional poker player, commentator, and writer. He is best known for his role as the lead commentator for the World Poker Tour (WPT) on the Travel Channel. He is also the founder of the Tournament of Champions of Poker (TOC). Sexton was born in Shelbyville, Indiana, and attended Shelbyville High School. He graduated from Indiana University in 1971 with a degree in accounting. After college, he worked as a stockbroker and real estate investor. Sexton began playing poker in the early 1970s and quickly became a successful tournament player. He won the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 1989 and was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2009. In addition to his poker career, Sexton is also an accomplished commentator and writer. He has written several books on poker, including Super System 2 and Million Dollar Hold'em. He has also written for Card Player magazine and is a regular contributor to the World Poker Tour website. Sexton is also an active philanthropist. He has donated to numerous charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the WPT Foundation, which provides grants to charities and organizations that promote poker.
