He is also a lecturer at the University of Thailand and a visiting professor at the University of the Aegean in Greece. Bauwens was born on 21 March 1958 in Belgium. He studied philosophy and sociology at the Free University of Brussels and received his PhD in political science from the University of Amsterdam in 1998. Bauwens is the author of several books, including Peer to Peer: The Commons Manifesto (2005), The Political Economy of Peer Production (2008), and The Wealth of Networks (2009). He is also the editor of the P2P Foundation blog, which covers topics related to peer-to-peer production, the sharing economy, and open source software. Bauwens is a frequent speaker at conferences and events around the world. He has been a keynote speaker at the World Social Forum, the International Conference on Free Software, and the International Conference on Open Source Software. He has also been a guest lecturer at universities in Europe, Asia, and the United States. Bauwens is a member of the Global Council of the World Economic Forum and a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for the Future. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Open Source Initiative.
