He is best known for his partnership with partner Christine Zwirner, with whom he won the Austrian National Championships in 1976 and 1977. Nemec began skating at the age of seven and competed in singles until he was sixteen. He then switched to pairs and was partnered with Christine Zwirner. The pair won the Austrian National Championships in 1976 and 1977. They also competed at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, where they placed tenth. Nemec and Zwirner retired from competitive skating in 1978. Nemec then became a coach and choreographer. He has coached many successful pairs, including the Austrian team of Claudia Rauscher and Stefan Rauscher, who won the bronze medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics. Nemec is currently 68 years old.
