Michael Blake is an American writer, director, and producer. He is best known for writing the novel Dances with Wolves, which was adapted into an Academy Award-winning film of the same name. He also wrote the screenplay for the film. Blake was born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and grew up in the small town of Red Springs. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he studied English and creative writing. After graduating, he served in the United States Army for two years. In 1988, Blake wrote the novel Dances with Wolves, which was adapted into a film in 1990. The film was a critical and commercial success, and won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. In addition to writing, Blake has also directed and produced several films, including The Holy Man (1995), The Land Before Time IX: Journey to Big Water (2002), and The Missing (2003). He has also written several other novels, including Marching to Valhalla (1994) and Airman Mortensen (1996). As of 2021, Michael Blake's net worth is estimated to be roughly $2 million.
