Maurice Riordan is an Irish poet and editor. He was born in 1953 in Lisgoold, Ireland. He was educated at University College Cork and the University of East Anglia. He has published six collections of poetry, including The Holy Land (1998), Flood (2003), and The Water Stealer (2008). He has also edited several anthologies, including The Penguin Book of Irish Poetry (2010). Riordan has won numerous awards for his work, including the Forward Prize for Best Collection for The Water Stealer, the Irish Times Poetry Now Award for Flood, and the Michael Hartnett Award for The Holy Land. He has also been shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize and the Costa Poetry Award. Riordan is currently the editor of Poetry Ireland Review and a professor of creative writing at Trinity College Dublin. He lives in Dublin with his wife and two children.

It received the Michael Hartnett Award.
