Masaki Fujihata is a Japanese media artist and professor at Keio University. He is best known for his pioneering work in the field of interactive art and media. He has been active in the field since the early 1980s, and has created numerous interactive installations, interactive performances, and interactive artworks. Fujihata was born in Tokyo in 1956. He graduated from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1981, and received his master's degree in 1983. He then went on to study at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he received his PhD in 1989. Fujihata has been a professor at Keio University since 1994, and is currently the director of the Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies. He has also been a visiting professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of Tokyo, and the University of Tsukuba. Fujihata has received numerous awards for his work, including the Japan Media Arts Festival Grand Prize in 2003, the Japan Media Arts Festival Excellence Prize in 2004, and the Japan Media Arts Festival Special Prize in 2005. He has also been awarded the Japan Media Arts Festival Special Prize in 2006, the Japan Media Arts Festival Grand Prize in 2007, and the Japan Media Arts Festival Excellence Prize in 2008.
