Marta Kauffman is an American television producer and writer. She is best known as the co-creator of the popular sitcom Friends, which ran from 1994 to 2004. She has also written and produced for other shows, including Dream On, Veronica's Closet, and The Powers That Be. Kauffman was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1978 with a degree in communications. She began her career as a writer for the sitcom Dream On, and went on to write for other shows, including Veronica's Closet and The Powers That Be. In 1994, Kauffman co-created the sitcom Friends with David Crane. The show was a huge success, running for 10 seasons and becoming one of the most popular shows of all time. Kauffman also served as an executive producer on the show. Kauffman has won several awards for her work, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series for Friends in 2002. She has also been nominated for several other awards, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Friends in 1995. Kauffman is currently working on a new show, Grace and Frankie, which stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. The show is set to premiere on Netflix in 2015.
