Marion McClinton is an American theatre director, actor, and playwright. He is best known for his work on the Broadway production of August Wilson's Fences, for which he won a Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play in 2010. He has also directed productions of Wilson's plays at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston, and the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. McClinton was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and attended the University of Minnesota, where he studied theatre. He began his career as an actor, appearing in productions of the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. He later moved to New York City, where he worked as an actor and director in Off-Broadway and regional theatre productions. McClinton has directed numerous productions of August Wilson's plays, including Fences, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, and The Piano Lesson. He has also directed productions of plays by other playwrights, including Suzan-Lori Parks' Topdog/Underdog, Katori Hall's The Mountaintop, and August Wilson's Radio Golf. McClinton is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including a Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play for Fences, a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Director of a Play for Joe Turner's Come and Gone, and a Drama League Award for Distinguished Production of a Play for The Piano Lesson. He was also the recipient of the 2010 August Wilson Directing Fellowship from the Kennedy Center.

He was an associate artist at Center Stage in Baltimore, Maryland, where he directed several Wilson plays as well as Les Blancs and Splash Hatch on the E Going Down. He directed at, among others, the Pittsburgh Public Theater (several Wilson plays), Guthrie Theater, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and Playwrights Horizons. At the Goodman Theatre he directed a staged reading of Fences as part of the Goodman's August Wilson Celebration in February 2007. He had previously directed King Hedley II, Gem of the Ocean and Jitney at the Goodman.

He has directed most of August Wilson's plays, both on Broadway and regionally, and has been termed "One of the leading Wilson directors". The first premiere of Wilson's works that he directed was King Hedley II in 2001, taking over from the then-retired Lloyd Richards as Wilson's director.

McClinton's early theater career was at Penumbra Theatre Company in Saint Paul, Minnesota where he was born. He played the part of narrator in August Wilson's first stage piece, Black Bart and the Sacred Hills in 1981, and remained active at Penumbra through the early 1990s.
