Margaret Martin is a public health professional who has dedicated her career to improving the health of communities. She was born on April 15, 1954 in the United States. Martin earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of California, San Francisco in 1976. She then went on to earn her Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1981. Martin has worked in public health for over 40 years, beginning her career as a nurse in the San Francisco Bay Area. She then went on to serve as a public health nurse in the California Department of Health Services, and later as a public health administrator in the California Department of Public Health. Martin has held numerous leadership positions in public health, including serving as the Director of the California Department of Public Health from 1999 to 2003. She has also served as the President and CEO of the California Health Care Foundation, and as the Executive Director of the California Health Benefits Review Program. Martin is currently the Executive Director of the California Health Care Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health of Californians. She is also a member of the National Academy of Medicine, and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Martin is married and has two children. She enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.
