Maikanti Baru is a Nigerian engineer and business executive who currently serves as the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). He was born in Misau, Bauchi State, Nigeria, on July 1959. Maikanti Baru attended the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1983. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Maikanti Baru began his career in the oil and gas industry in 1984 as a Production Engineer with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). He rose through the ranks to become the Group Executive Director of Exploration and Production in the NNPC in 2011. In 2016, he was appointed as the Group Managing Director of the NNPC. Maikanti Baru is married and has four children. He is an active member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists. He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management and the Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
