Luis Alcoriza was a Spanish screenwriter, director, and actor. He was born in Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain, on 5 September 1918. He studied law at the University of Madrid and began his career as a journalist. He wrote for the newspaper El Sol and the magazine La Estafeta Literaria. In the 1940s, Alcoriza began writing for the theater and cinema. He wrote the screenplay for the film "Los Olvidados" (1950), which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. He also wrote the screenplay for the film "El Bruto" (1953), which was nominated for an Academy Award. Alcoriza directed several films, including "La Muerte de un Ciclista" (1955), "La Caza" (1966), and "El Verdugo" (1963). He also acted in several films, including "Los Olvidados" (1950) and "El Verdugo" (1963). Alcoriza was awarded the National Prize for Cinematography in Spain in 1975. He died in Mexico City on 8 April 1992.
