Price began his career as a session musician, playing on records for artists such as The Temptations, The Four Tops, and The Jackson 5. He eventually joined The Temptations as a full-time member in 1975, and remained with the group until 1983. During his time with the group, he co-wrote and produced several of their hits, including "Shakey Ground" and "Power". Price has also released several solo albums, including his debut, Louis Price (1980), and his most recent, Soulful (2015). He has also written and produced songs for other artists, including The O'Jays, The Spinners, and The Isley Brothers. Price is currently 71 years old. He has an estimated net worth of $2 million.

In 1998, he was heard providing the singing voices for Dennis Edwards in the Temptations miniseries. He also provided singing vocals for Cornwallis for the "Circle of Poo" song in the South Park episode "A Very Crappy Christmas", incorrectly credited as "Lewis Price".
