Lionel Banks was an American art director, production designer, and art department head. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 22, 1901. He began his career in the film industry in the 1920s, working as an assistant art director on films such as The Big Parade (1925) and The Jazz Singer (1927). He went on to become an art director on films such as The Wizard of Oz (1939) and The Philadelphia Story (1940). He also worked as a production designer on films such as The Ten Commandments (1956) and The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965). Lionel Banks was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Art Direction for his work on The Ten Commandments. He was also nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on the television series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1964-1968). Lionel Banks died on April 15, 1975, in Los Angeles, California. He was 73 years old.
