Kurt M. Campbell is an American diplomat and businessman who currently serves as the Chairman and CEO of The Asia Group, a strategic advisory firm. He previously served as the Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs from 2009 to 2013. Campbell was born in Fresno, California in 1957. He graduated from Harvard University in 1979 with a degree in government and went on to earn a master's degree in international relations from the London School of Economics in 1981. Campbell began his career in the United States Foreign Service in 1982, serving in various posts in the State Department and the National Security Council. He was appointed Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs in 2009 and served in that role until 2013. In 2014, Campbell founded The Asia Group, a strategic advisory firm focused on helping companies navigate the complexities of the Asia-Pacific region. He is also a senior advisor at the Center for a New American Security and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Campbell is married to Lael Brainard, the current Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs. They have two children.

Prior to co-founding CNAS, he served as senior vice president, director of the International Security Program, and the Henry A. Kissinger Chair in National Security Policy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
