Klaus Doldinger is a German composer, saxophonist, and music producer. He is best known for his work on the soundtrack of the German film Das Boot, for which he won a BAFTA Award for Best Film Music in 1982. He has also composed music for numerous other films, television series, and stage productions. Doldinger was born in Berlin in 1936. He began playing the saxophone at the age of 14, and studied music at the Berlin Conservatory. He began his professional career in the 1950s, playing in jazz clubs and recording with various jazz musicians. In the 1960s, he began composing music for films and television, and in the 1970s he began producing his own albums. Doldinger has won numerous awards for his work, including the German Film Award for Best Music in 1982, the Bavarian Film Award for Best Music in 1983, and the Bavarian Order of Merit in 2004. He has also been nominated for several Grammy Awards. Doldinger continues to compose and produce music, and is currently working on a new album. He is also a member of the German Jazz Hall of Fame.
