Kitarô is a Japanese composer, keyboardist, and record producer. He is best known for his electronic-instrumental music, and has released over 50 albums since his debut in 1978. He has composed music for films, television series, and video games, and has collaborated with a variety of artists. He has won numerous awards, including the Japan Record Award, the Japan Academy Prize, and the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album. Kitarô was born in Toyohashi, Aichi, Japan, on February 4, 1953. He began playing the piano at the age of five, and was inspired by the music of The Beatles and Pink Floyd. He attended the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, where he studied composition and orchestration. Kitarô's career began in 1978, when he released his debut album, Astral Voyage. He has since released over 50 albums, including the Grammy Award-winning album, Kojiki. He has composed music for films, television series, and video games, and has collaborated with a variety of artists, including Yoko Kanno, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Kitaro's own band, Kitaro & Friends. Kitarô has won numerous awards, including the Japan Record Award, the Japan Academy Prize, and the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album. He has also been inducted into the Hollywood Rock Walk of Fame. Kitarô is currently 68 years old.
