Ken McDonald is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He was born on September 26, 1957 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he played college basketball for the Quakers. After college, he was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1979 NBA Draft. He played for the 76ers, the San Diego Clippers, and the New Jersey Nets during his NBA career. McDonald began his coaching career in 1989, when he was hired as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers. He then served as an assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets, the Detroit Pistons, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. In 2003, he was hired as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he coached for two seasons. McDonald is currently the head coach of the University of Pennsylvania men's basketball team. He has been the head coach since 2006. He has led the Quakers to two NCAA Tournament appearances and two Ivy League championships. McDonald is married to his wife, Lisa, and they have two children.
