Keeth Smart is an American fencer and Olympic silver medalist. He was born on July 29, 1978 in Brooklyn, New York. He is the son of Jamaican immigrants, and he was raised in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. Keeth Smart began fencing at the age of nine, and he quickly rose to the top of the sport. He was a member of the U.S. National Team from 1995 to 2008, and he won the silver medal in the individual sabre event at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He also won the gold medal in the team sabre event at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo. In addition to his Olympic success, Keeth Smart has won numerous national and international championships. He was the U.S. National Champion in sabre in 2001, 2002, and 2003, and he was the World Cup Champion in sabre in 2002. He was also a member of the U.S. team that won the gold medal in the team sabre event at the 2005 World Championships in Leipzig, Germany. Keeth Smart retired from competitive fencing in 2008, and he now works as a fencing coach and motivational speaker. He is the founder of the Keeth Smart Fencing Academy, which provides fencing instruction to children and adults in the New York City area.
