She has also written for The Independent, The Sunday Times, and The Financial Times. Grimond has written several books, including The Guardian Book of the Year (1984), The Guardian Book of the Year (1985), and The Guardian Book of the Year (1986). He was the elder son and the middle child of Joseph "Jo" Grimond (later Lord Grimond, as a Life Peer), who led the Liberal Party in the 1960s. His mother was the former Laura Bonham Carter, daughter of Violet, Baroness Bonham Carter (a Life Peeress in her own right) and granddaughter of the former British Prime Minister H. H. Asquith, later 1st Earl of Oxford and Asquith. Laura's niece is the actress Helena Bonham Carter, daughter of her younger brother Raymond. Johnnie and Kate Grimond have three children.
