Junior D. Edwards was an American jazz saxophonist and clarinetist. He was born in Indianola, Iowa, and began playing the saxophone at the age of 12. He attended the University of Iowa and studied music theory and composition. Edwards was a member of the Lionel Hampton Orchestra from 1947 to 1949, and then joined the Count Basie Orchestra in 1950. He remained with Basie until 1956, when he left to pursue a solo career. He released several albums as a leader, including "Junior D. Edwards and His All Stars" (1956), "Junior D. Edwards and His Orchestra" (1958), and "Junior D. Edwards and His Big Band" (1960). Edwards was known for his soulful, bluesy style of playing, and was an influence on many jazz musicians, including John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins. He also wrote several compositions, including "The Big Apple" and "The Big Apple Blues". Edwards died in New York City on April 15, 1988, at the age of 61. At the time of his death, Edwards was estimated to have a net worth of $1 million. He earned most of his wealth from his career as a jazz musician, performing with some of the most renowned jazz musicians of the time. He also earned money from his solo albums and compositions.

Edwards joined the Army from his birthplace of Indianola, Iowa in January 1945, and served in the final months of World War II as a cook and a military policeman, until he was discharged in August 1946. He rejoined the Army in June 1947. He is buried in IOOF Cemetery Indianola, Iowa.
