Julia Neilson was an English actress who was active in the theatre from 1887 to 1914. She was born in London, England, on 12 June 1868. She was the daughter of the actor and theatre manager Charles Neilson and his wife, the actress Emilie Melville. Neilson made her stage debut in 1887 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in London. She went on to appear in a number of plays in London and on tour, including productions of Shakespeare's plays. She also appeared in a number of musicals, including The Geisha (1896) and The Belle of New York (1897). In 1898, Neilson married the actor and theatre manager Charles Wyndham. The couple had two children, a son and a daughter. Neilson's last stage appearance was in 1914, in a production of The Second Mrs Tanqueray at the Wyndham's Theatre in London. She died in London on 28 April, 1933.

A review of Neilson's performance in the play Ballad Monger in 1890 declared: "Miss Neilson's really wonderful singing took the curtain up on the very keynote of the beautiful and pathetic play. And to her singing no higher tribute can be paid. One of these days, we do not doubt, it will be possible to write in the same strain about her acting. In that there is splendid promise. And the promise will come the more near to performance when she is a trifle less conscious of her remarkable physical beauty, and of the fact that she has been to some extent rushed into her present position".

Despite her singing talent she decided to learn the profession of an actress and she made her professional stage debut in 1888 at the Lyceum theater. Soon after followed her first leading role in the play "Pygmalion and Galatea". Afterwards she appeared successfully on different stages. With her engagement by Herbert Beerbohm Tree her reputation increased and she made her acting repertoire perfect.
