John W. Schoen is an American journalist who has worked for NBC News since 1982. He is currently a senior economics reporter for the network. He has reported on a wide range of economic issues, including the 2008 financial crisis, the Great Recession, the housing market, the auto industry, and the federal budget. Schoen was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and graduated from Harvard University in 1974 with a degree in economics. He began his career as a reporter for the Boston Globe, where he covered the Massachusetts State House and the banking industry. He then moved to NBC News in 1982, where he has been ever since. Schoen has won numerous awards for his reporting, including the Edward R. Murrow Award, the National Headliner Award, and the National Press Club Award. He has also been honored with the National Association of Business Economists' Award for Excellence in Economic Reporting. Schoen is married to his wife, Susan, and they have two children. Schoen began his career as a newspaper reporter and editor in Connecticut, moving to Dow Jones as radio newscaster and writer for The Wall Street Journal. As a reporter for the CBS Radio Network’s half-hour program, Business Update, he covered Wall Street's insider trading scandals and the Crash of '87. When the program was revamped as Marketplace, and production moved to Los Angeles, Schoen became the first New York editor, covering Wall Street and a variety of other business stories.

2012
