João Mário Grilo is a Portuguese film director, author, and professor. He is best known for his films such as "O Homem do Ano" (The Man of the Year, 1988), "O Ano em Que Sonhamos Perigosamente" (The Year We Dreamed Dangerously, 1992), and "O Homem do Ano" (The Man of the Year, 1995). He has also written several books, including "O Cinema Português" (Portuguese Cinema, 1989) and "O Cinema Português Contemporâneo" (Contemporary Portuguese Cinema, 2000). Grilo was born on 8 November, 1958 in Figueira da Foz, Portugal. He studied at the University of Coimbra, where he earned a degree in Cinema and Audiovisual. He then went on to teach at the University of Lisbon, where he was a professor of Cinema and Audiovisual. Grilo has won several awards for his work, including the Prémio Nacional de Cinema (National Cinema Prize) in 1988, the Prémio Nacional de Artes e Letras (National Arts and Letters Prize) in 1992, and the Prémio Nacional de Cultura (National Culture Prize) in 1995.
