Joan Alexander is an American actress and singer best known for her role as Lois Lane in the 1940s Superman radio series. She was born on April 16, 1915 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She began her career as a singer and dancer in vaudeville and nightclubs, and later appeared in Broadway musicals. In 1940, Alexander was cast as Lois Lane in the Superman radio series, a role she would play for the next decade. She also appeared in several films, including The Great Gildersleeve (1942), The Falcon in Danger (1943), and The Falcon's Adventure (1946). In the 1950s, Alexander retired from acting and moved to Florida, where she worked as a real estate agent. She returned to acting in the 1970s, appearing in the television series The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Bob Newhart Show. Alexander has been married twice, first to actor and director William Abrass, and later to actor and director Robert Emmett. She has one daughter, actress Louise Abrass. Starr plead guilty in 2010 to defrauding nine clients - including Lauren Bacall, Neil Simon, Uma Thurman, Jim Wiatt, and Alexander - of almost $60 million.
