His strip "Little Iodine" was begun in 1943 as a spin-off from "They'll Do It", and it proved so popular that it spawned a series of comic books that lasted for almost 15 years and even a movie (Little Iodine (1946)).

1936

In 1936 King Features Syndicate picked it up for national syndication and it quickly became a reader favorite. Hatlo was somewhat unusual for cartoonists in that he would use suggestions for subjects that were sent to him by readers, and when he did he let his readers know with his signature "A Tip of the Hatlo Hat to. . . " in the lower right-hand corner of the strip. He won several awards from national cartoonists' organizations for his work.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, cartoonist Jimmy Hatlo is most famous for his cartoon strip "Little Iodine", which was a spin-off from another of his comic strips, "They'll Do It Every Time". Originally a sports cartoonist for the San Francisco Call-Bulletin, he left that field in 1929 and began the strip "They'll Do It Every Time".
