Jim Dauterive is an American television writer and producer. He is best known for his work on the animated sitcom King of the Hill, which he co-created with Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. He has also written for The Simpsons, The Critic, and The PJs. Dauterive was born in Dallas, Texas, and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in Radio-Television-Film. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles and began working as a production assistant on the Fox sketch comedy show In Living Color. Dauterive's first writing job was on The Critic, a short-lived animated series created by Al Jean and Mike Reiss. He then joined the writing staff of The Simpsons, where he wrote several episodes, including "The Last Temptation of Homer" and "The Cartridge Family". In 1997, Dauterive co-created King of the Hill with Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. He served as a writer and executive producer on the show for its entire 13-season run. Dauterive has also written for The PJs, a stop-motion animated series created by Eddie Murphy, and has served as a consulting producer on the Fox animated series Bob's Burgers. James Thomas Dauterive (/d oʊ ˈ t r iː v / ; born June 22, 1957) is an American animation producer and writer, widely known for his work on King of the Hill (1997–2010) and Bob's Burgers (2011–present).

Dauterive was born on June 22, 1957. Like his namesake character on King of the Hill, William Fontaine de la Tour "Bill" Dauterive, his family is of Louisiana Cajun origin. He has served on the Board of Trustees for Bridges Academy since 2017.
