Jim Acker is an American former professional baseball pitcher who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros, and Toronto Blue Jays. He was born on September 24, 1958 in Freer, Texas. Acker attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he played college baseball for the Longhorns. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the first round of the 1979 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut with the Braves in 1982. Acker played for the Braves until 1986, when he was traded to the Houston Astros. He played for the Astros until 1989, when he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays. He played for the Blue Jays until 1991, when he retired. In his 10-year MLB career, Acker compiled a record of 64-68 with a 3.90 ERA. He was an All-Star in 1985. Acker signed as a free agent with the Seattle Mariners on February 2, 1992. He appeared in 17 games with the Mariners, compiling a 5.28 ERA, before he was released on July 21, 1992.

Acker spent part of the 1989 year and the complete 1990 and 1991 seasons back with the Blue Jays. In his entire seven-year career with the Jays he compiled a record of 26-22 with 14 saves and an ERA of 4.07 in 281 games. On October 31, 1991 he was granted free agency.
