Jens Zimmermann is a German politician and member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). He was born on 9 September 1981 in the city of Berlin. Zimmermann studied political science, sociology and economics at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Potsdam. He was a member of the SPD's youth organization, the Young Socialists, from 1998 to 2002. In 2005, Zimmermann was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives, where he served as a member of the SPD's parliamentary group. He was re-elected in 2011 and 2016. In 2013, Zimmermann was appointed as the SPD's spokesperson for the Berlin Senate's Department of Education, Youth and Family. He was also a member of the SPD's national executive board from 2013 to 2017. In 2017, Zimmermann was elected to the German Bundestag, where he serves as a member of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment.
