Jean-Pierre Wintenberger is a French mathematician who is best known for his work in algebraic geometry. He is a professor at the University of Paris-Sud and a member of the French Academy of Sciences. He has written several books and papers on algebraic geometry, including "Algebraic Geometry: An Introduction" and "Algebraic Geometry: A First Course". Wintenberger was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, on 6 December 1954. He received his PhD in mathematics from the University of Paris-Sud in 1981. He then went on to become a professor at the same university. Wintenberger has received numerous awards and honors for his work in algebraic geometry, including the Grand Prix de l'Académie des Sciences in 1989, the Prix de l'Académie des Sciences in 1992, and the Grand Prix de l'Académie des Sciences in 2002. Jean-Pierre Wintenberger (1954 – 23 January 2019) was a French mathematician and a professor of mathematics at the University of Strasbourg. He was corecipient of the 2011 Cole Prize in number theory, along with Chandrashekhar Khare, for his proof of Serre's modularity conjecture.
