Author of "Anthologie historique des lectures érotiques, de l'Antiquité à nos jours" in five volumes (1979-2001).

He published "Histoire d'O" by Dominique Aury given to him by author and editor Jean Paulhan. He published " L'Épervier de Maheux" by Jean Carrière which won the Goncourt in 1972. He edited the "Anthologie historique des lectures érotiques" in 5 volumes from 1979 to 2001.

1945

He founded Le Palimugre in 1945 which became éditions Jean-Jacques Pauvert, then éditions Pauvert and was bought by Hachette in 1979. From 1947, he published works by the Marquis de Sade. He had to defend himself on indecency grounds till 1958. His lawyer was Maurice Garçon.

1941

Born in a family of French intellectuals, his maternal great-uncle was André Salmon, friend of writers Guillaume Apollinaire and Max Jacob , Pauvert got a job as an apprentice in 1941 at the NRF (now Gallimard) publishing house.

1940

In the 1940s, he began to publish the complete work of the Marquis de Sade. He was sued by French justice for that and was temporarily deprived of his civic rights.
