He began boxing at the age of 15 and went on to become a two-time New England Golden Gloves champion. Estrada turned professional in 2001 and won his first 15 fights, including a victory over former world champion Montell Griffin. He was then given a shot at the vacant WBO NABO light heavyweight title, which he won by defeating former world champion Byron Mitchell. In 2006, Estrada fought for the WBC light heavyweight title against then-champion Tomasz Adamek. He lost the fight by unanimous decision. He has since gone on to fight for the WBA Fedelatin light heavyweight title, which he won by defeating former world champion Hugo Hernan Garay.
