Janusz Ziółkowski is a Polish politician who served as the Prime Minister of Poland from 1989 to 1991. He was born on 6 April 1924 in the village of Łęki Małe, in the Łódź Voivodeship. He graduated from the University of Warsaw in 1948 with a degree in law. Ziółkowski began his political career in the 1950s, when he was elected to the Sejm, the lower house of the Polish parliament. He served as a deputy minister of justice from 1957 to 1961, and then as a minister of justice from 1961 to 1965. He was also a member of the Polish United Workers' Party from 1956 to 1989. In 1989, Ziółkowski was appointed Prime Minister of Poland by President Wojciech Jaruzelski. He served in this position until 1991, when he was replaced by Jan Krzysztof Bielecki. During his tenure, Ziółkowski oversaw the transition of Poland from a communist state to a democratic one. As of 2021, Janusz Ziółkowski is 76 years old.
