James "J.T." Taylor is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. He is best known as the lead singer of the R&B/funk band Kool & the Gang. Taylor was born in Laurens, South Carolina, and began singing in church at the age of five. He attended Laurens High School and later studied music at South Carolina State University. Taylor joined Kool & the Gang in 1979 and became the lead singer of the group. He sang lead vocals on the band's biggest hits, including "Celebration," "Cherish," "Jungle Boogie," and "Get Down On It." Taylor left the band in 1988 and pursued a solo career. He released his debut solo album, Master of the Game, in 1989. Taylor has also acted in several films, including The Last Dragon (1985), The Preacher's Wife (1996), and The Fighting Temptations (2003). He has also appeared in television shows, including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and The Jamie Foxx Show. As of 2021, James "J.T." Taylor's net worth is estimated to be roughly $10 million.
