James Dunn was an American actor and singer who had a successful career in Hollywood from the 1920s to the 1950s. He was best known for his roles in films such as It's a Wonderful Life (1946), The Singing Kid (1936), and The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle (1939). He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945). Dunn was born in New York City on November 2, 1901. He began his career as a vaudeville performer and made his Broadway debut in 1924. He made his film debut in 1929 and went on to appear in over 100 films. He was also a prolific singer, recording several albums and singles throughout his career. Dunn died on August 1, 1967 in Los Angeles, California. He was 65 years old.
