James Beck was an English actor best known for his role as Private Walker in the BBC sitcom Dad's Army. He was born on 21 February 1929 in Islington, North London, England, UK. He was educated at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Beck began his career in the theatre, appearing in productions such as The Boy Friend and The Happiest Days of Your Life. He made his television debut in the BBC series The Army Game in 1957. He went on to appear in a number of television series, including The Avengers, The Saint, The Baron, The Champions, and The Persuaders. Beck's most famous role was as Private Walker in Dad's Army, which he played from 1968 to 1977. He also appeared in the film version of the series in 1971. Beck died on 22 August 1973 at the age of 44. His cause of death was a heart attack. He was survived by his wife, actress June Ellis, and their two children. At the time of his death, Beck had an estimated net worth of $2 million.
