James Barbour is an American singer and actor who has been performing on Broadway and in regional theater for over 25 years. He is best known for originating the role of the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, and for his Tony Award-nominated performance as the title character in Stephen Sondheim's Assassins. Barbour was born in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and began performing in local theater productions at the age of nine. He attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where he studied voice and acting. After college, he moved to New York City and began performing in regional theater productions. In 1994, Barbour made his Broadway debut in the musical Carousel. He went on to originate the role of the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway in 1999. He was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in Assassins in 2004. Barbour has also appeared in numerous television and film roles, including the films The Stepford Wives and The Producers. He has also appeared in the television series Law & Order: Criminal Intent and The Good Wife. Barbour is married to actress and singer Susan Egan, and they have two children. He currently resides in New York City.
